RedDawn Boxers officially came to life in 1998 with
the arrival of our first litter sired by J. Dara's
Rienzi out of Salbad's Jewel of High River at RedDawn OA OAJ
NP
OJP CGC; however, my
admiration of and involvement with the breed started LONG before that!
I was first
introduced to the breed by my aunt and uncle, Rebecca and Jerry West of
J. Dara's Boxers. I was just a child when I met
their boxers, Mugsy and Bootsie. I always thought that Mugsy was just the
"coolest" and loved to take him for walks and show him off! J. Dara's first litter by Mugsy out
of Bootsie had me hooked... Becky has allowed me to assist with the whelp of almost every
litter that has come under the J. Dara banner since then, and has subsequently provided me with an
outstanding foundation of knowledge about breeding and raising boxers.
It was with Becky
that I obtained my first boxer, Bouncer, through a rescue effort
and it was Becky that gave me my first show dog as a gift for my 21st birthday, J. Dara's Rienzi
CGC. Z helped me to get my feet wet in the
conformation ring and started a habit that I doubt I'll ever quit! Z did not like the show
ring as much as I did and was "retired". He was a beautiful pet
and a loyal companion.
In an effort to
begin a line of my own, the first boxer that I purchased from an outside kennel was a
lovely little fawn bitch that I named, Salbad's Jewel of High River at RedDawn.
Julia had nearly perfect conformation combined with an incredible pedigree and an attitude
that just couldn't be beat! She was being exhibited in the conformation ring, but we didn't
expect anything other than a good time since she sports a set of natural ears
;o). Our
main performance goals were in agility first and then obedience. Julia hit
the agility trials in the autumn of 2000 and zipped through her both of
her Novice titles with nine straight Q's! She then went on to finish off
her Open Jumper title and earned one leg in Open Standard. Julia loved to work and
seemed to be a natural, but we tried to take our time and try to do everything just
right! (Update: Please visit Julia's page for
complete details of her performance career.)
Julia was bred
with Z and produced seven beautiful brindle puppies in the fall of 1998 -
our establishing
litter. We are very proud to have several of those puppies in the show ring!
One very special boy pup from that litter is being exhibited with his
natural ears. On his first weekend out with professional handler, Tina L.
Camp, RedDawn's Rogue Wave took BACK-TO-BACK
TWO POINT WINS!!
Julia produced a
second litter of five picture-perfect fawns for us in the fall of 2003. Please visit our
puppy pages for all of the details!
Only twelve
puppies in nearly nine years - a record that we are proud to hold!
Thanks for
visiting!
